I wouldn’t usually do a post like this, cause ya know, I only use tumblr to constantly tell people about my weight loss failures (update:still failing) BUT seeing as i have exhausted the ears of my close friends and family I figured i’d take to the internet. Aren’t you guys lucky?
So you may be like, “hey dani, what’s happened lately that you feel the need to proclaim it’s complete amazingness through a blog that not many people will probably ready”. GOOD QUESTION HYPOTHETICAL PERSON.
We’ll start at the beginning….
Last Saturday I was in Edinburgh with my friend to hand in Cv’s (unemployment sucks a bit) when I seen a poster for Bo Burnham’s Fringe show. As a fan I got a bit excited, tweeted him saying “where ur ye" which unfortunately I got no reply to and then decided to get tickets for me and my brothers (using my parents money because I am ,of course, unemployed).
Now, the thing I find with comedy shows is that I’ll laugh but it’s more of a laughing to myself than an L-O-L sort of moment, so driving to Edinburgh last night I expected the same.The show starts at 11:15pm and we had gotten there early enough to get awesome seats in the second row, we were absolutely buzzing and then the show began…
I literally have never seen anything like it. I left the show with aching sides from how much I laughed and- despite the copious amounts of sexual,racial,sectarian and foul language jokes- I genuinely feel like I came out smarter…which may not be apparent in this post because I am making up words but DEAL WITH IT.
So anyway, the whole show from start to finish was just amazing. I know some people prefer their comedians to be on stage with only a mic and their jokes, but I think the voice overs, the props, the music and just the all round theatrics of Bo’s show is what made it stand out for me compared to other comedians I have seen. He is so energetic and flamboyant throughout the show that he blurs the line between knowing whether he is straight or homosexual (not that it matters, I just found it funny that I was genuinely thinking to myself “he talks about pussy a lot…but is he gay?”). I have to admit that there are parts of his show, especially if you are sitting near the front, where you cant tell where he’s looking and it looks like he’s looking at you and you feel awkward as fuck but you don’t want to look away.
The way the show was strung together just made me think how intelligent and creative Bo Burnham is and how far he’s come from his videos on youtube. I also found the finale of the show to be utter genius. I would urge anyone and everyone to go see the show, especially if you like a bit of fun and ridiculousness, because you wont be disappointed
And just a side note that has nothing to do with his show-he is a braw lookin’ laddie! You would not say no to that face!
This is definitely not your normal sort of journalist critique you’d find in the newspaper, my vocabulary bank is pretty shite, but literally the only point that has to be taken from this is this;
Bo Burnham is a fucking genius and you should all go and see his show if he tours anywhere near you.
I hope he comes back to the UK soon because I cant wait to see him again.
